Why did the montage of VFX: Brahmastra take longer than expected?

The recent release from Brahmastra Trilogy - SHIVA: Part One pan out on 9th Sep 2022. Although Arijit Singh’s soulful voice along with background music composed by Pritam was enchanted, its impactful Visual effects have generated massive hype for Brahmastra. However, the critics have mixed reviews regarding the ‘writing’, Brahmastra is the talk of the town right now considering the Visual effects.

Ayan Mukherjee’s long-lived dream Brahmastra has a history of 11 years. In the beginning, the film was named ‘Dragon’ however in 2017, the involvement of Karan Johar made it known as ‘Brahmastra’ which would become a trilogy in the following years. Found out through the grapevine that Brahmastra has faced a few monetary issues in its inception. Furthermore, Covid-19 caused a delay in the live-action shots as well as the VFX pipeline.

Being specific with Brahmastra VFX, (Spoiler Alert!!!!!) SRK’s cameo as Mohan Bhargav has grabbed gigantic attention increasing a huge fanbase that has appealed to create a spin-off for this specific character. These 15-20 minutes are breathtaking in terms of 3D effects, VFX, sound effects, action, direction, and in all aspects. The most stagnant process is rendering those imaginative visuals and compositing them into a mesmerizing scene on-screen.

Apart from getting the availability dates from the actors, Ranbir-Alia, Amitabh Bachhan, Nagarjuna, Mouni Roy, etc. these visuals could be an actual reason for such a massive movie-making process.VFX for Brahmastra has been done by Prime-Focus India which collaborated with the popular company DNEG (Double Negative) in July 2014.

DNEG is an international British-American VFX company that has won awards for its spotless work in movies such as Dune (2021), Interstellar (2014), Inception (2010), Tenet (2020), etc. Big VFX companies use a predefined method or pipeline to complete their movie. While some studios follow only excel sheets to track their data. Any VFX movie passes through processes like 3D Modelling, Rigging, Animation, Texture, Shadow, Lighting, Rendering, Compositing, etc.
